Parliamentary from the region discussed in Panama on migration and security

Parliamentarians from 35 countries will gather in Panama City from Friday to Saturday this week in the XII Plenary Assembly of Parliamentarians for the Americas (ParlAmericas), to discuss, among other issues, migration and security, said an official source .

With the slogan «Legislation for prosperity with equity», the meeting of ParlAmericas issues such as education, health, energy, environment, migration and security will be addressed, reported the National Assembly.

The meeting also will discuss citizen participation and democratic government (legislative case studies), and also the memorandum of understanding will be signed UN Women.

ParlAmericas is a body composed of the parliaments of 35 countries in North, Central and South America and the Caribbean, with the mission to strengthen democracy and governance on the continent through dialogue and parliamentary cooperation.

Participation in the opening ceremony of the Mexican senator and president of ParlAmericas, Marcela War, and President of the National Assembly of Panama, Ruben de Leon is scheduled.

Also, according to the NA, the participation of Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) it is expected, and Isabel De Saint Malo de Alvarado, Vice President and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Panama.

The panels will focus on «education, health, energy, environment» and the theme of «migration, security, citizen participation and democratic government: legislative case studies».

ParlAmericas, the network of national legislatures of the member states of the OAS, in operation since 2001 as an independent forum for parliamentarians of the Americas committed to cooperative political dialogue and participation in the inter-American system.

This forum has monitored issues such as the plan of action to prevent harassment and political violence against women, food security and strengthening legislative oversight to promote accountability, transparency and sustainable growth.
